Mayor Derek SK Kawakami reports that there appears to be an upward trend in COVID-19 cases on Kauai during his bi-weekly COVID update Thursday, April 22.

Kawakami said today’s case count is preliminary as there two new cases with the source of the infection unknown at this time. These numbers bring the total case count to eight, which includes residents and visitors.

During the past week, health officials say this is the time since January they’ve seen community-transmitted cases.
