The Kaua‘i District Health Office reported three new positive cases of COVID-19 on today, all related to travelers who participated in the state’s Safe Travels pre-testing program.

Two cases are an adult male visitor and adult female visitor who were exempt from the travel quarantine through pre-travel testing uploaded to Safe Travels. They were subsequently tested again here on Kaua‘i and both tested positive for COVID-19. They are now in isolation and a Department of Health investigation is ongoing. These cases will be included in Wednesday’s DOH’s cumulative case count for Kaua‘i, as the cases were diagnosed on-island.

The third case is an adult male O‘ahu resident who took a pre-travel test and received his positive test result after arriving on Kaua‘i. He is now in isolation and his identified close contacts have been directed to quarantine. A Department of Health investigation is ongoing. This case will appear as an O‘ahu case on the state dashboard, because that is where the diagnosis test was performed. However, the County of Kaua‘i intends to count all active cases currently on Kaua‘i, regardless of the county of diagnosis, toward Kaua‘i’s Business and Recreational Guidelines for COVID-19 Tier Tracker.

With today’s cases, Kaua‘i’s one-week average of daily new cases remains at one. Should the one-week average case count increase to two new cases per day, Kaua‘i County will move to Tier 3, prompting additional restrictions.
