Incumbent council members lead in primary election results
The latest results for the Hawaiʻi Primary Election show that incumbent Kauaʻi County Council Members are leading with the most votes.
Out of 17 candidates, the top 14 move onto the general election in November, where they will be competing for seven available seats.
The top seven are currently made up of all current or former council members.
The only current council member not in the top seven is Billy DeCosta, in eighth place. He is followed closely by Fern Anuenue Holland in ninth place.
The results show that former mayor and current council member Bernard Carvalho Jr. leads the way with 7.4% of the votes (7,607), followed by longtime Council Chair Mel Rapozo in second with 7.2% (7,386).
In third is longtime former council member Arryl Kaneshiro with 6.7% (6,793), followed by current council members Ross Kagawa with 6.3% (6,476), KipuKai Kualiʻi with 6.3% (6,433), Felicia Cowden with 5.7% (5,849), and Addison Bulosan with 5.4% (5,561).
The seven others also currently moving onto the general election are DeCosta with 4.9% (4,956), Holland with 4.7% (4,784), Abe Apilado Jr. with 2.1% (2,110), Sherri Cummings with 2% (2,074), W. Butch Keahiolalo with 1.9% (1,937), Jacquelyn Nelson with 1.2% (1,252), and Bart Thomas with 1.2% (1,229).
The three candidates currently not moving on are Ana Mo Des who received 1.1% of the votes (1,079) Clint A. Yago Sr. with 1% (1,045), and Jeffrey Lindner with 0.9% (885).
Additionally, County of Kauaʻi Prosecuting Attorney Rebecca Like easily advanced to the general election, as she is running unopposed. However, nearly half of voters did not vote in the category. The current results show she received 51.8% of the votes (7,568), and the other 48.2% (7,043) of voters left the category blank.
