Power nearly all restored following islandwide outage on Kaua‘i
An islandwide outage on Kaua‘i knocked out power for about 35,000 members of the Kaua‘i Island Utility Cooperative Wednesday night.
KIUC reported the outage at around 8 p.m. on its Facebook page. The cause of the outage was a fault that occurred at the Kapaia substation, which caused generators to trip offline.
Power restoration began within an hour of the outage. KIUC officials say most members were restored by roughly 11:15 p.m.
A small number of members in Anahola and Princeville who reported still being out were restored this morning. As of 3 p.m., only 22 people are without power islandwide.
The last islandwide outage on Kaua‘i occurred on Jan. 4 and lasted approximately 2 hours and 20 minutes. In that incident, a failure with a junction box at the Port Allen Generation Station caused generators to trip offline.
