Blood Bank of Hawai‘i is partnering with and giving back to Special Olympics Hawai‘i this summer from June 1 through Aug. 31 for its “Give Blood. Empower Athletes.” campaign.

The “Give Blood. Empower Athletes” campaign strives to address the 15% dip in blood donations that typically occurs during the summer months. This initiative helps ensure that Special Olympics Hawai‘i athletes can compete at no cost.

Across the state and throughout the summer, neighbor islands and partner blood drives will be organized to boost donations. A three-day blood drive event is scheduled in August at Sheraton Kauai Coconut Beach Resort.

The three-day drive will operate during the following hours:

  • Aug. 20 from 9 a.m. – 7 p.m.
  • Aug. 21 from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  • Aug. 22 from 6 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Community support is crucial to maintaining an adequate blood supply.

Donating blood is a simple yet impactful way to support the community, BBH officials stated. Given Hawai‘i’s unique geography, it’s essential to maintain a sufficient blood supply for patients in need.

By participating in the blood drive, donors can make a significant difference in the lives of those facing medical emergencies.
