Kaua‘i rum earns ‘Best in Show’ at international spirits competition

The Kaua‘i-based Kōloa Rum Company took top honors at the 2024 TAG Global Spirits Awards in Las Vegas, earning “Best in Show” for its Kaua‘i Reserve Cask Strength Single-Barrel Aged 5 Year Rum in the aged-dark, overproof rum category.

The Kaua‘i Reserve Aged Rum received a platinum rating of 95 points.

The third annual TAG Global Spirits Awards took place in Las Vegas from March 5-8, bringing together spirit brands from around the world. The event featured an international panel of industry experts assessing over 100 categories.

Judges praised the Kaua’i Reserve Aged Rum, describing its appearance as “brilliant” and “pale golden.” The aroma was noted for its intensity, featuring sweet and spicy notes of “marzipan”, “caramel” and “baking spices.” The flavor profile was commended for its harmony with the nose, showcasing tropical notes complemented by “wood accents” and a vibrant, well-balanced texture.

“This prestigious recognition from the TAG Global Spirits Awards is a testament to our team’s dedication to innovation, quality and craftsmanship,” said Bob Gunter, president and CEO of Kōloa Rum Company.
