Boys & Girls clubs from throughout Hawai‘i visit O‘ahu for annual Ocean Sports Day

Surf’s up! Around 120 keiki – representing all nine Boys & Girls Club of Hawai‘i clubhouses, including from Kaua‘i – hit Kalama Beach in Kailua on O‘ahu this weekend for the organization’s annual Ocean Sports Day, which was held for the first time since the pandemic.

The kids learned the importance of enjoying the ocean safely while exploring new activities like canoe paddling, surfing, body boarding, beach volleyball and more. For some members, it was their first trip to O‘ahu.

The Boys & Girls Club of Hawai‘i is a statewide nonprofit organization providing after-school programming for local youth. Three Boys & Girls clubhouses are based on Kaua‘i: In Kapa‘a, Līhu‘e and West Kaua‘i. For more information about all three sites, click here.

The 2024 Ocean Sports Day was made possible thanks to partners like HIC, who provided supplies and arranged volunteers to teach skills in paddling, surfing and body boarding. Plus, every child took home a rashguard, courtesy of HIC and Volcom.
