Industrial structure fire Friday at Knudson Gap causes estimated $500K in damages
Firefighters from several Kaua‘i Fire Department units extinguished an industrial structure fire the afternoon of March 8 on Kuia Place at Knudson Gap.
No injuries were reported.
Firefighters were dispatched shortly after 3 p.m. Friday to the fire. Personnel from the Kōloa, Līhu‘e and Kalāheo fire stations, Rescue 3, the Fire Prevention Bureau, the Kaua‘i Police Department and the on-duty battalion chief responded to the blaze.
Upon their arrival shortly before 3:30 p.m., firefighters with the Līhu‘e fire station discovered the second floor of an industrial structure engulfed in flames. Personnel with Rescue 3, Truck 3 and the Kalāheo and Kōloa fire stations arrived shortly after.
The fire was controlled and extinguished, with firefighters clearing the scene by just before 6 p.m.
After the blaze was extinguished, Kaua‘i Fire Department Fire Prevention investigators took over the scene and conducted an investigation.
Damages to structure and contents are estimated at $500,000.
The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental.
