Līhu‘e man dies in single vehicle crash on Maluhia Road in Kōloa
A 32-year-old Līhu‘e man died Friday night following a single vehicle crash in Kōloa.
At about 10 p.m. March 8, a 1991 Dodge truck traveling north on Maluhia Road left the roadway and struck a tree. Two people were inside.
First responders arrived to find the truck on its side in the road’s southbound shoulder.
The Līhu‘e man was driving and suffered fatal injuries in the crash.
The passenger, a 32-year-old Līhu‘e woman, was treated at the scene by medics for non-life threatening injuries. She was transported to Wilcox Memorial Hospital in Līhu‘e for further treatment and subsequently released.
Maluhia Road was closed in both directions for about 3 hours while the Kauaʽi Police Department’s Traffic Safety Section investigated.
Speed and impairment appear to be suspected factors in the crash; however, the investigation is ongoing.
This is Kaua‘i’s third traffic fatality of 2024.
