The Kaua‘i Fire Department Fire Prevention Bureau is partnering with the Kaua‘i Red Cross to visit Garden Isle homes and install free smoke alarms in Kaumakani.

Visiting residents on March 9 from 9 a.m. to noon, the smoke alarm install is part of the Red Cross’ Sound the Alarm campaign to ensure all homes have working smoke detectors.

“The program will be provided at no cost to the residents,” said KFD Prevention Bureau Capt. Kaeo Kinoshita. “Fire prevention actions like this pilot and individual preparedness are essential for the safety of our community.”

The plan is to eventually expand the program to other parts of the island.

During the outreach, Red Cross and KFD officials will also discuss fire safety, such as having two means of egress and meeting points, as well as preparing for the upcoming wildland fire season by limiting combustibles around your home.
