High surf expected to hit Kaua‘i and Ni‘ihau Thursday
The National Weather Service issued a high surf warning for north- and west-facing shores of Kaua‘i and Ni‘ihau in effect from midnight Thursday to 6 p.m. Friday.
The warning may be extended, dropped, or modified as conditions develop.
A large northwest swell will arrive late tonight and rapidly build down the island chain on Thursday. Surf is forecasted to build to 35 to 45 feet along north-facing shores and 20 to 25 feet along west-facing shores.
Entering the water in these areas during this time is hazardous and could cause serious injury or death. Beachgoers are also advised to use extreme caution, as large breaking waves could make it dangerous for those standing along the shoreline.
