70-year-old man crossing street on scooter struck by truck
A 70-year-old Līhuʻe man was crossing Kalena Street Thursday morning in Līhuʻe on a mobility scooter when he was struck by a vehicle.
Kauaiʻi police responded at about 11:45 a.m. following the incident in which a white 2016 Ford truck was turning from Rice Street onto Kalena Street when it struck the man on the electric scooter. The elderly Līhuʻe man was transported to the Wilcox Memorial Hospital in Līhuʻe with serious injuries.
He remains at the hospital in stable condition.
The driver of the Ford, a 36-year-old Līhu‘e woman, did not report any injuries. She was arrested for first-degree negligent injury and released pending investigation.
Police closed Kalena Street in both directions for about an hour as officers with the Kaua‘i Police Department Traffic Safety Section conducted an on-scene investigation.
The investigation is ongoing.
