Update: Man wanted in connection with assault on Kaua‘i police officer turns himself in
Update at 8 a.m. Jan. 14: Kaua‘i police say 24-year-old Travis Bonachita of Kōloa, who was wanted in connection with an assault on a police officer, was taken into custody.
Bonachita turned himself in at about midnight Jan. 13. He was arrested for:
- First-degree attempted assault.
- Prohibited place to keep pistol or revolver.
- Carrying a loaded firearm on highway.
- Ownership possession prohibited.
- First-degree criminal property damage.
His bail was set at $45,000.
“We would like to thank the community for their vigilance and assistance in apprehending Bonachita peacefully,” said Kennison Nagahisa, acting captain of the Kaua‘i Police Department Investigation Service Bureau.
Original post: Authorities are searching for a Kōloa man wanted in connection to an assault on a Kaua‘i police officer earlier today.
According to Kaua‘i Police Department, the incident occurred on Waila‘au and Ala Kinoiki Roads when officers attempted to arrest 24-year-old Travis Bonachita. After the reported assault, the suspect left the scene in a vehicle, which was later found abandoned.
The officer was treated and released for minor injuries.
Bonachita is considered dangerous, and the public is advised to use caution and not approach him. Bonachita is 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs about 190 pounds.
Police officials remind the public that any person who helps Bonachita could face prosecution for first-degree hindering prosecution, an offense punishable by up to 5 years in prison. Help includes providing money, transportation, weapons, disguise, or other means of avoiding discovery, apprehension, prosecution, or conviction.
