Two Kaua‘i hospitals form partnership with Diagnostic Laboratory Services, Inc.
Hawai‘i Health Systems Corporation has formed a new partnership with Diagnostic Laboratory Services, Inc. to operate hospital laboratory services onsite at Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waimea and Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital in Kapa‘a to enhance patient services.
“We are proud to bring Kaua‘i high quality lab services islandwide,” said Lance Segawa, Hawai‘i Health Systems Corporation’s Kaua‘i Region Chief Executive Officer.
On Jan. 2, Diagnostic Laboratory Services opened its outpatient Patient Service Center in the Kawaiola Medical Building at Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital. The Patient Service Center lab at Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital will open in early 2024. Both labs will provide comprehensive testing for infectious diseases, drugs, pathogens, genetic disorders, women’s wellness and more.
“One of the benefits of this partnership is that individuals living from Kapa‘a to the North Shore, who previously had to travel to Līhu‘e for lab services, will be able to utilize the lab at Samuel Mahelona,” said Segawa. “This convenience will save families precious time and resources.”
Previous to this partnership, Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital did not provide in-house laboratory services, and Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital operated an onsite laboratory with two employees, who were offered employment by Diagnostic Laboratory Services.
“KVMH [Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital] and SMMH [Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital] have a great and long history of providing vital services to their patients and we are excited to become an integral part of that,” said Mark Wasielewski, Diagnostic Laboratory Services President. “We look forward to expanding our services to the people of Kaua‘i and improving their access to top quality healthcare.”
Diagnostic Laboratory Services is the largest locally-owned medical lab in Hawai‘i and has served Kaua‘i since 1994. The Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital and Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital Diagnostic Laboratory Services labs add to their current locations in Kalaheo and Līhu‘e.
