Kaua‘i police seek the public’s help with identifying unidentified body
The Kaua‘i Police Department is seeking the public’s help with identifying an unidentified body found at a makeshift campsite located near the vicinity of the Second Ditch in Kekaha, by a surf spot commonly known as Targets.
According to a preliminary report filed on Dec. 16, 2023, KPD personnel responded to a call of a person found deceased at a campsite located under a thick canopy of kiawe trees. State of Hawai’i Department of Conservation and Resources Enforcement (DOCARE) personnel also responded to the incident and assisted KPD.
The decedent had long hair but was unrecognizable due to the advanced stage of decomposition. The decedent was wearing green and white surf shorts with floral designs, pants with camouflage designs, and a t-shirt with a University of Georgia emblem. An autopsy was completed on Dec. 26, 2023, and no signs of foul play are currently suspected. Preliminary results of the autopsy indicate the decedent’s gender as possibly being male. There were no missing person reports filed recently with the Kaua’i Police Department.
