Update: High surf advisory extended for north and west shorelines of Kaua‘i and Ni‘ihau
Updated at 7:43 a.m. on Monday: A high surf advisory for north- and west-facing shores of Kaua‘i and Ni‘ihau is extended till 6 p.m. Tuesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Honolulu, 15- to 20-foot surf is expected along north-facing shores today and 20 to 25 feet on Tuesday. For west-facing shores, 10- to 15-foot surf is expected today and will increase to 15 to 20 feet on Tuesday.
Updated at 7:37 a.m. on Sunday: A high surf advisory for north- and west-facing shores for Kaua‘i and Ni‘ihau is extended till 6 p.m. Monday.
According to the National Weather Service in Honolulu, 15- to 20-foot surf along north-facing shores is expected with 10- to 14-foot surf along west-facing shores.
Original post: A high surf advisory is in effect until 6 a.m. Dec. 4 for northern and western shores of Kaua‘i and Ni‘ihau as an incoming northwest swell is expected to lead to a rapid rise in surf this afternoon, peaking Dec. 3 before being followed by a larger northwest swell arriving Monday night.
According to the National Weather Service forecast office in Honolulu, surf along north-facing shores will increase to 12 to 16 feet this afternoon. Surf along west-facing shores will rise to 8 to 12 feet this afternoon and tonight.
Impacts from the high surf are expected to be moderate, with strong breaking waves and strong currents that will make swimming dangerous.
The public is advised to heed all advice from ocean safety officials. When in doubt, don’t go out.
