Injured hiker rescued in Kalalau Sunday

First responders rescued a 26-year-old female visitor from New York on the Kalalau Trail on Sunday.

Firefighters were dispatched to a report of a female with an apparent head injury near the Kalalau Trail shortly before 1:35 p.m. on Sunday.

Personnel with the Hanalei fire station and Rescue 3 aboard Air 1 responded to the incident.

According to a preliminary report, first responders located the hiker below the trail shortly before 2:30 p.m., being tended to by fellow hikers. The hiker fell approximately 60 feet off the trail and injured her head.

Upon arrival, first responders loaded the hiker onto Air 1 and transported her to the Princeville Airport to awaiting American Medical Response and KFD personnel.

AMR personnel continued treatment of the hiker. She declined medical transport to the hospital and was released.

The scene was cleared shortly after 3:50 p.m.
