Male visitor dies after being pulled from waters off Hanalei Bay Sunday
Kaua‘i Police report that a male visitor was pronounced dead after being pulled from waters off Hanalei Bay on Sunday.
The visitor has been identified as Ronald Nicasio, age 57, of Nevada.
According to a preliminary report, Ocean Safety Bureau personnel from the Pine Trees Tower spotted bystanders calling for help after bringing an unresponsive swimmer to shore approximately 150 yards from the lifeguard tower. Once lifeguards arrived shortly after, they began to administer CPR and AED on the man.
When firefighters from the Hanalei fire station arrived on the scene, they continued CPR efforts on the man before personnel from American Medical Response took over operations. AMR personnel continued medical treatment on the Nevada visitor while on transport to Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital. However, the man could not be revived, and he was pronounced dead by a medical doctor at the hospital.
An autopsy is pending.
Volunteers with the Visitor Aloha Society of Kaua‘i, a nonprofit providing emergency needs for visitors, and Life’s Bridges, a grief counseling service, are assisting the visitor’s family.
