Kaua‘i man in critical condition after crashing moped in Po‘ipū
A Po‘ipū man is in critical condition after crashing the moped his driving on Kiahuna Plantation Drive Thursday morning.
The crash occurred shortly before 10 a.m. in Po‘ipū when Kaua‘i Police Department says the 54-year-old, traveling east, lost control.
Firefighters from the Kōloa fire station and AMR medics arrived on scene and treated the man before taking him to Wilcox Medical Center. He was later medevaced to O‘ahu for further treatment, where he remains in critical condition.
According to police, the man was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Speed does not appear to be a contributing factor at this time, and toxicology results are pending.
One lane of Kiahuna Plantation Drive was closed for approximately 2 hours while the Kaua‘i Police Department’s Traffic Safety Section conducted an on-scene investigation.
The investigation of the crash remains ongoing.
