Woman dies following Līhu‘e traffic crash Wednesday
An unidentified woman has died following a traffic crash in Līhu‘e Wednesday morning.
The Kaua‘i Police Department will update the public once she is identified and the next of kin is notified.
At approximately 4:50 a.m. Wednesday, KPD and Kaua‘i Fire Department personnel were dispatched to a report of a traffic crash involving a motor vehicle and pedestrian near mile marker 2.5 on Kapule Highway in Līhu‘e.
According to a preliminary report, a 34-year-old female of Kapa‘a operating a Ford E350 box truck traveling northbound on Kapule Highway collided with a female pedestrian walking in the middle of the northbound lane.
While the driver was uninjured, American Medical Response personnel pronounced the unidentified woman dead at the scene.
Kapule Highway between Ahukini Road and Kūhiō Highway was closed in both directions for approximately 2 hours while the Kaua‘i Police Department’s Traffic Safety Section conducted an on-scene investigation.
Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash at this time. However, the investigation remains ongoing, and toxicology reports are pending.
This is the third traffic-related fatality on Kaua‘i this year.
