One hospitalized following Po‘ipū traffic crash Thursday
A 70-year-old Po‘ipū man was admitted in critical condition to Wilcox Medical Center following a traffic crash in Po‘ipū Thursday morning.
According to preliminary reports, at approximately 6:35 a.m., Kaua‘i Police was dispatched to a report of a traffic crash involving a bicyclist and a motor vehicle. A bicyclist traveling southbound on Nalo Road attempted to make a right turn onto Ho‘one Road. After overtaking a vehicle near the stop sign, the bicyclist collided with a Toyota Tacoma operated by a 24-year-old Hanapēpē male traveling eastbound on Ho‘one Road.
Speed and impairment do not appear to be factors in this crash. Toxicology reports are pending to determine if the operator was under the influence at the time of the incident. However, the investigation remains ongoing.
In addition, the junction of Ho‘one Road and Nalu Road was closed for approximately 2 hours while officers with the Traffic Safety Section conducted an on-scene investigation.
