Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam Summer Showcase and Expo this June

Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, one of the most historic military installations in the world, will open its Ford Island gates to the public on June 3 and June 4.

This rare opportunity will allow visitors to tour the USS Frank J. Petersen Jr, an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer, homeported at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam.

There will also be static displays of military aircraft including a Marine Corps VM-22 Osprey, a Navy MH-60 Seahawk and a Coast Guard MH-65 Dolphin.

Over the weekend, the Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum’s Flight Adventures featuring Biggest Little Air Show returns after a three-year hiatus. Rivalling the thrill of regular air shows, this air show of radio-controlled model aircraft includes exciting precision acrobatics, and the ever popular “candy bomber.”

The museum has also planned many other activities, including open cockpits, flight lessons and STEM activities for kids, food trucks, bounce houses, and more.

Public access to Ford Island will be available Saturday from 8 a.m. for the two airshows on Saturday, and from 11 a.m. for the one airshow on Sunday.

Registration is required as the number of vehicles granted access is limited. Certain activities will also require pre-registration.

Visitors 18 years old and older are required to present a valid photo ID, such as a driver’s license, passport or military ID. Once guests are parked on Ford Island, shuttles will be available to transport attendees to the exciting venues.

To ensure public safety, the following restrictions will also apply: no pets (with the exception of service animals); no weapons, including firearms and knives, are allowed, including concealed carry weapons; no backpacks or coolers are allowed; diaper bags or medically required bags will be subject to search; no drones are allowed; no drugs or alcoholic beverages are allowed. Persons with felony convictions are not authorized base access, and all vehicles and personnel entering the installation are subject to security searches and background checks.
