Earth Day on April 22 is just around the corner and there are plenty of ways to celebrate and volunteer on Kaua‘i.

The Ho’olaule’a no ka Hōnua (Celebration for the Earth) runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Kaua‘i Community College in Puhi. It is organized by the college, the County of Kaua‘i Office of Economic Development and the Kaua‘i Economic Development Board.

There will be free chili bowls and a station where participants can create their own pizza using fresh local toppings and the college’s woodfire pizza oven. The event will include prize giveaways and demonstrations. You also can enjoy entertainment by the event’s emcee and local comedian Zavier Cummings, known as Howsdisguy.

The Hawaiʻi Electric Vehicle Association will host Drive Electric Earth Day in Līhu‘e. And, on the South Shore, the National Tropical Botanical Garden and the Kauaʻi Invasive Species Committee are holding ʻĀina Day (Earth Day) with a Hawaiian context.

Kaua‘i residents and visitors will have several volunteer opportunities to choose from. Ocean conservation nonprofit Hoʻomalu Ke Kai is leading Da South Side Sweep, which aims to clean up as much coastline as possible from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Earth Day.
