Kaua‘i Independent Food Bank holiday food drive kicks off in November
A Kaua‘i food bank wants to make the holidays brighter — and fill tables — for people in need.
The Kaua‘i Independent Food Bank’s holiday food drive will run Nov. 1-Dec. 31. Monetary donations and donations of perishable and non-perishable food can be dropped off at any county fire station and at the food bank’s warehouse in Nāwiliwili.
The food bank hopes to raise $50,000 and 50,000 pounds of food to help those who struggle to make ends meet, wondering from where their next meal will come.
The most needed food items include:
- Rice and grains in bags and heat/serve containers.
- Pasta and pasta sauce.
- Proteins and seed/nut butters.
- Low-sodium soups and stews.
- Low-sodium fruits and vegetables in water or 100% juice
- Hot and cold cereal.
- Shelf-stable milk supplements.
A food drive tool kit is available on the Kaua‘i Independent Food Bank website.
“You have the power to make a difference,” a press release from the food bank said. “Please join the Kaua‘i Independent Food Bank in making a difference and helping to feed those in need on our island by donating today.”
Monetary and food donations also are accepted anytime from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays at the Nāwiliwili warehouse.
