Wilcox Medical Center Announces Changes to COVID-19 Policies

With COVID-19 case counts and hospitalizations continuing to decline, as well as changes made at the state and county levels, Wilcox Medical Center in Līhuʻe is updating its own COVID policies.

According to a press release, the drive-up COVID testing site at the medical center has updated its hours. It now will be open from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The site is located at the back of the medical center under the big white tent.

Kaua‘i Urgent Care, located at 4484 Paheʻe St. behind Home Depot, also continues to offer COVID tests from 8 a.m.-7 p.m. daily.

Appointments are not required. Screenings are on a first-come, first-served basis.

Additional COVID policy changes at Wilcox Medical Center include:

• The visitor policy was updated to allow two adult visitors at a time for all inpatient and outpatient settings, with the option to swap out visitors during a 24-hour period. Previously, visits were limited to one visitor per patient at a time. Screening processes for all visitors in the inpatient setting will remain in place.
• All restrictions at the dining room were lifted Tuesday, March 1. The decision reflects the lifting of Emergency Rule 28, which Kauaʻi County Mayor Derek Kawakami repealed the same day.

There are no changes to current mask-wearing guidelines at Wilcox Medical Center or Kaua‘i Medical Clinic.

“We are continuously monitoring the situation with COVID-19 in Hawai‘i, including the number of active cases and the number of COVID-19 positive patients who are hospitalized,” said the press release. “These factors and other considerations may impact our visitor policy and procedures at any time.”
