20 New COVID Cases Reported on Garden Isle

The Hawai‘i State Department of Health Kaua‘i District Health Office reported 20 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, Nov. 5.

Today’s cases are all residents. Of the 20 new cases, four are children and 16 are adults. Five of the cases are related to mainland travel. The remaining 15 cases are considered community-acquired. Eleven of the community-acquired infections are close contacts of a previously announced case or are tied to an active cluster. The remaining four cases have no known source of infection, including one whom investigators have been unable to reach after repeated attempts or who has refused to provide information.

“Children ages 5 to 11 years old are now eligible to be vaccinated, and vaccinations for keiki are available at multiple sites around the island. For vaccination site locations, visit www.kauai.gov/vaccine,” said Dr. Janet Berreman, Kaua‘i District Health Officer. “With the holidays coming, now is a great time to protect keiki and families by getting them vaccinated.”

Today’s cases bring the number of active cases to 101, with six hospitalized, and 2,794 cumulative cases. Kaua‘i’s cumulative case count includes 2,735 confirmed locally, eight probable, and 51 positive cases diagnosed elsewhere, as they received their pre-travel test results after arriving on island.
