The county of Kaua‘i Department of Water will at 2 p.m. begin an emergency water service shutdown on a portion of Rice Street in Līhu‘e, from Kalena Street to Ho’olako Street.

Water service will be turned off from 2 to 4:30 p.m. to conduct emergency mainline repairs, due to a recent 12-inch mainline break.

A partial lane closure with traffic control may be implemented along Rice Street, near Kalapaki Villas, to create a safe work zone for repairs, according to the water department.

Customers located in the service area are advised to prepare for the water service shutdown by taking the following steps:

  • Store water to meet your needs until water service can be safely restored.
  • Notify neighbors, family and friends of the water service shutdown.
  • Those with faulty water heaters should ensure that water heaters do not empty during the shutdown.
  • Businesses are advised to prepare accordingly for the temporary water service disruption.
