Kauaʻi County proclaims August 14 ‘Tatiana Weston-Webb Day’
Olympic surfer Tatiana Weston Webb was honored by the County of Kauaʻi in a ceremony at the Lihuʻe Civic Center on Wednesday morning, when Mayor Derek S.K. Kawakami proclaimed Aug. 14 Tatiana Weston-Webb Day.
28-year-old Weston-Webb, a longtime resident of Kauaʻi, recently won silver at the Paris Olympics while representing her birth country, Brazil.
“Obviously, I represent Brazil on the championship tour, but I also represent Kauaʻi,” Weston Webb said in a speech during the ceremony. “I couldn’t be prouder to call Kauaʻi my home.”
In addition to Kawakami, the event was attended by several other politicians, including Lt. Gov. Sylvia Luke, Senate President Ron Kouchi, Rep. Dee Morikawa, Councilwoman Felicia Cowden, and Rep. Luke Evslin.
“To Tatiana, you make Kaua‘i so proud, and everyone here shares in this wave of emotion,” said Kawakami. “It is a tremendous honor to celebrate you and your ‘ohana, and recognize this huge accomplishment. Thank you for sharing this moment with all of us. You are an inspiration to our young children and our community.”
