Nightly closures for portion of Kūhiō Highway to begin in August
Nightly full closures of Kūhiō Highway between Hanalei Plantation Road and ʻŌhiki Road are scheduled to begin Aug. 4 and run till Sept. 15.
A full closure is necessary for crews to install a 24-inch drain line from the top of Hanalei Hill down the face of the slope, according to Hawai‘i Department of Transportation. This work is part of the Hanalei Hill Slope Stabilization Project.
There will be a single-lane closure leading up to the full closure. The schedule is as follows:
Single-lane closure
- Sunday – 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.
- Monday – 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.
- Tuesday – 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.
- Wednesday – 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.
- Thursday – 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.
- Friday – No Work after 4:30 a.m.
- Saturday- No Work
Full closure
- 11 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. (Monday)
- 11 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. (Tuesday)
- 11 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. (Wednesday)
- 11 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. (Thursday)
- 11 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. (Friday)
Emergency vehicles will be allowed access through the closure.
