Hanapēpē Bridge to close as Kaua‘i County begins upgrades to structure
Hanapēpē Bridge on Hanapēpē Road will be under an extended closure as crews begin a $3 million project to replace or repair asphalt, walkways and the bridge structure.
The Department of Public Works and Kiewit West Infrastructure Co. will begin work on the road and bridge starting July 22 and will continue till April 11, 2025. Work will occur on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5:30 pm; however, the bridge will remain closed at all times.
The scope of the project includes replacing the pedestrian walkway, spalled concrete repairs to the bridge abutments, piers, and deck, reinforcement and thickening of the bridge deck, and an overlay with a new asphalt surface, among other repairs.
The bridge’s historical appearance will remain the same.
Motorists are advised to make the appropriate arrangements to accommodate the necessary road closures, use alternative routes, follow detour signs, drive with caution, and allow for extra time to get to destinations.
Dates and times are subject to change depending on weather and other factors. Anyone with questions may contact Greg Uyematsu or Gibson Scott of Kiewit Infrastructure West Co. at 808-674-1088.
