Jake LaForge and Kanoelani Kanoho captured footage of a possible 10-foot Tiger shark swimming at Hanalei Bay Tuesday morning.

In a social media post, LaForge wrote the animal was spotted approximately 150 feet out from the Pavilion Lifeguard Tower. The footage of the shark was captured at 200 feet altitude on a three-times zoom lens.

LaForge stated on a Facebook post: “Followed him around as he swam around the bay and then swam out into the ocean. Was weird to see it so close to shore.”

The Kauaʻi County Ocean Safety Bureau did advise no swimming at Hanalei Bay until further notice due to a shark sighting about 250 feet west of the Pavilion Lifeguard Tower.

Warning signs were posted Tuesday but lifeguards have since removed them as there have been no additional sightings as of this morning.

For updates, speak to a county lifeguard or call the Ocean Safety Bureau at 808-241-4984.
