First responders rescue injured visitor in Princeville Friday
Officials with the County of Kauaʻi have reported that first responders rescued an injured 65-year-old male Washington visitor in Princeville on Friday, May 3.
County of Kauaʻi Public Information Officers released the following statement on the incident on May 4:
Kaua‘i Fire Department personnel with the Hanalei fire station and Rescue 3 aboard Air 1 responded to the incident.
According to a preliminary report, KFD received a report of an injured person near Kamehameha Road at Princeville shortly after 4:50 p.m. on Friday.
When firefighters arrived on the scene, they found the visitor who suffered a broken leg after falling roughly 15 feet onto the reef near Kaweonui Point, also known as Sea Lodge Beach. Because of the location, Rescue 3 aboard Air 1 was mobilized. After first responders with the Hanalei station splinted the visitor’s leg, Rescue 3 aboard Air 1 short-hauled the visitor to a nearby landing zone in Princeville.
Awaiting personnel from American Medical Response provided advanced life support and continued efforts on the visitor before transporting him to Wilcox Medical Center.
The scene was cleared shortly after 6:40 p.m.
