Firefighters extinguish structure fire in Kapa‘a Saturday; three people displaced

Firefighters extinguished a structure fire that broke out in a Kapa‘a residence Saturday evening, which left three people displaced.

One occupant of the home was treated by AMR medics for smoke inhalation and transported to Wilcox Hospital as a precaution. There were no other injuries reported.

At approximately 6:20 p.m., firefighters from the Kaiākea, Kapa‘a and Līhu‘e fire stations were dispatched to Apelila Street in Kapa‘a, after receiving reports of a house on fire. One off-duty firefighter was nearby when the fire was reported, and responded to the scene where he assisted crews with initial fire operations. The on-duty battalion chief and firefighters from the Fire Prevention Bureau also responded to the incident.

Once on scene, firefighters found a single-story residence on fire. All occupants of the home were outside and safe upon their arrival.

Firefighters entered the home and quickly brought the blaze under control. Response continued inside and outside of the structure until the fire was fully extinguished. Crews cleared the scene at approximately 9:20 p.m.

The incident caused significant fire and smoke damage throughout the home. Fire inspectors estimate damage to the structure and its contents to be roughly $500,000.

Volunteers with the American Red Cross are assisting the displaced individuals.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation and no further information is available at this time.
