Wind advisory issued across the Hawaiian Islands
A wind advisory is in effect from 6 p.m. this evening till 6 p.m. Thursday across the state.
According to the National Weather Service in Honolulu, a strong high pressure system will continue to build in north of the Hawaiian Islands through Thursday. Strong and gusty easterly trade winds will exceed wind advisory thresholds in windier areas across the state.
Trade winds of 25 to 35 mph are expected with localized gusts over 50 mph expected. Winds this strong can tear off shingles, knock down tree branches, blow away tents and awnings and make it difficult to steer, especially for drivers of high profile vehicles.
