Original post: A high surf advisory for north- and west-facing shores of Ni‘ihau and Kaua‘i goes into effect on Wednesday at 6 a.m. and ends at 6 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service in Honolulu, a moderate-sized, long-period northwest (310-320 degrees) swell will build through tonight, producing advisory-level surf along most north- and west-facing shores of the smaller islands Wednesday morning through the afternoon. This swell will slowly decline through Friday.
By Wednesday morning, the surf will build 12 to 16 feet along north-facing shores and 8 to 12 feet along west-facing shores.
Strong breaking waves and strong currents will make swimming dangerous. Head all advice from ocean safety officials. When in doubt, don’t go out.
