Police arrested Helen Santiago, 50, of Kekaha, in connection with a three-vehicle crash that closed Kaumuali‘i Highway on Monday.

According to a preliminary investigation, at approximately 4 p.m., a white 2019 Nissan multipurpose vehicle was traveling eastbound on Kaumuali‘i Highway near mile marker four, when the vehicle side-swiped a 2016 Toyota multipurpose vehicle that was traveling westbound. The 2019 Nissan continued to cross the center line and collided head-on with a 2011 Toyota truck.

Police and medics responded to the scene and the front-seat passenger of the 2016 Toyota truck was transported to the Wilcox Memorial Hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. No other injuries were reported.

Santiago was arrested for Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of an Intoxicant.
