Kaua‘i nonprofit to host online auction to raise funds for North Shore community
A Kaua‘i nonprofit launched a new initiative to raise money for other local nonprofits and projects that benefit the North Shore community.
North Shore Give, founded in 2012, launched a new online auction site, northshoregive.org, that goes live on Wednesday.
“As a community foundation, North Shore Give is a catalyst for solving community challenges,” said Stefan Swanepoel, president of North Shore Give. “We work with nonprofits, community members, and other organizations to solve issues in the areas of Ha’ena south to Anahola. The North Shore Give Charity Auction gives us a way to fundraise and support other nonprofits doing good work in our community.”
The North Shore Give Charity Auction is online through Feb. 21 and ends with a gala that night. Over 100 items are available for auction and have been grouped into eight categories: accommodation and travel; activities and wellness; art, books and jewelry; collectables and experiences; dining and restaurants; Hawai‘i and local; and wine and liquor.
Portions of the auction proceeds, which are expected to exceed $100,000, will be donated to nonprofits for projects focused on education, health and wellness, and disaster preparedness and community resiliency, and will include the new Namahana School in Kīlauea, other schools, and other nonprofits.
Interesting items for auction include an African Safari; golf with Robert Trent Jones Jr., the designer of both golf courses on the North Shore; privately catered dinners in your home; accommodations in Sonoma County, Calif., and Park City, Utah; a ukelele painted by iconic Doug Britt; two surfboards creatively painted by local artist Trevor Romain; and resort stays including 7 nights at The Cliffs at Princeville and a weekend getaway at 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay.
The 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay is the lead sponsor of the North Shore Give Charity Auction and the venue where the North Shore Give Gala will be held on the last night of the auction. With only 140 guests, the gala is expected to sell out. Stefan Swanepoel will host the event with Ron Wiley of Kong Radio as the auctioneer.
“We invite everyone to participate in the online auction,” said Louis LaFratta, North Shore Give vice president. “You’ll get items you may typically buy anyway like dining at a favorite restaurant and, at the same time, support nonprofits that are working hard to improve our community.”
