Special marine warning issued for waters surrounding Kaua‘i
A special marine warning has been issued for the Kaua‘i Channel and the island’s leeward and windward waters till 10:45 a.m.
At 8:41 a.m., a line of fast-moving heavy showers extended from southern Kaua‘i to more than 40 nm offshore to the southwest. These showers were located along a line extending from Po‘ipū to 41 nm southwest of Southern Tip of Ni‘ihau, moving east at 20 knots.
Southwesterly wind gusts of 34 knots or greater are expected.
According to the National Weather Service in Honolulu, small craft could be damaged in briefly higher winds and suddenly higher waves. Areas impacted are Makahu‘ena Point, Port Allen, FAD Buoy CK, FAD Buoy PP, FAD Buoy AA and FAD Buoy Z.
Prepare for gusty winds, steep and fast-building seas, and blinding downpours. Stay low or go below, and make sure all on board are wearing life jackets.
