Suspect arrested following threats made against Kaua‘i County Council member Billy DeCosta
A 67-year-old Līhu‘e man was arrested Friday at about 4 p.m. in connection with a case involving threats against Kaua‘i County Council member Billy DeCosta.
Glenn Gruenhagen was arrested for first-degree terroristic threatening and harassment.
Letters directed at DeCosta were allegedly left at about noon Jan. 12 at the Historic County Building. The letters were perceived as a threat and the incident was reported Jan. 16 to the Kaua‘i Police Department.
“We would like to thank the community for remaining vigilant during this investigation,” said Kaua‘i Police Department Acting Capt. Kennison Nagahisa of the department’s Investigative Services Bureau. “We also appreciate the diligent work of our officers in securing an arrest for this case.”
Gruenhagen is being detained at the Kaua‘i Police Department cellblock. His bail was set at $5,050.
The investigation is ongoing.
