Update: Flood advisory canceled on Kaua‘i

5:52 p.m. update on Jan. 11: The flood advisory is now canceled.

2:52 p.m. update on Jan. 11: The National Weather Service in Honolulu extended the flood advisory on Kaua‘i till 6 p.m.

At 2:41 p.m., radar indicated persistent moderate to heavy rain over the northwest-facing slopes of Kaua‘i. Rain was falling at a rate near 1 inch per hour in the heavier showers, and 2 to 3 inches of rain has fallen since this morning.

Some locations that will experience flooding include:

  • Princeville
  • Alakai Swamp Trails
  • Koke‘e State Park
  • Nā Pali State Park
  • Wainiha
  • Hā‘ena
  • Hanalei
  • North Fork Wailua Trails
  • Polihale
  • Moloa‘a
  • Waimea Canyon State Park

Minor flooding on roads, poor drainage areas, and in streams could occur. River or stream flows are elevated.

Original post: A flood advisory is in effect till 3 p.m. for several areas on Kaua‘i.

At 11:56 a.m., radar indicated persistent moderate to heavy rain over the northwest-facing slopes of Kaua‘i. Rain was falling at a rate of 0.5 to 1 inches per hour. Some locations that will experience flooding include:

  • Princeville
  • Alakai Swamp Trails
  • Koke‘e State Park
  • Nā Pali State Park
  • Wainiha
  • Hā‘ena
  • Hanalei
  • North Fork Wailua Trails
  • Polihale
  • Moloa‘a
  • Waimea Canyon State Park

The public is advised to stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low-lying areas prone to flooding. This advisory may need to be extended if flooding persists.
