High surf advisory issued for north- and west-facing shores of Kaua‘i, Ni‘ihau
The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a high surf advisory until 6 a.m. Monday, Christmas Day, for the north- and west-facing shores of Kaua‘i and Ni‘ihau.
A large, long-period north-northwest swell is peaking this afternoon and will gradually decline through Monday. Surf will peak at 18 to 22 feet along north-facing shores and 10 to 14 feet along west-facing shores.
Strong breaking waves and strong currents will make swimming dangerous in these areas. The public should heed all advice from ocean safety officials; when in doubt, don’t go out.
