Minor coastal flooding possible for shorelines around Kaua‘i

The National Weather Service in Honolulu advises that minor coastal flooding is possible along the shorelines of Kaua‘i through Wednesday morning.

High astronomical tides combined with above normal water levels will likely continue to produce minor flooding along shorelines and vulnerable low-lying coastal areas at about the time of high tide early Wednesday morning. Peak high tide will occur between 4 and 6:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Elevated water levels could linger on Kaua‘i during the morning high tide cycles through the end of the work week.

Low-lying coastal roadways, docks, boat ramps, marina parking lots and other coastal infrastructure could be impacted. Flooding of beaches that are normally dry, minor coastal erosion and saltwater inundation also are possible.

The public is advised to avoid driving through flooded roadways. Motorists who must drive through salt water should rinse their vehicle with fresh water.

Move electronics, vehicles or other valuables to higher ground. Monitor vessels to ensure mooring lines don’t get
too tight and watch out for overwash around boat ramps.

Secure canoes or other watercraft stowed on beaches.
