Kaua‘i Planning Department issues reminder for upcoming workshops, survey on carbon reduction strategies
The County of Kaua‘i Planning Department will hold a series of virtual and in-person workshops in September on the Kaua‘i Climate Adaption and Action Plan, particularly to discuss carbon emissions reduction strategies with the community.
A virtual workshop will be held on Thursday, Sept. 14, from 5 to 7 p.m., via Zoom. Participants are asked to pre-register on the Kaua‘i CAP website, kauaiadaptation.com.
Two in-person workshops in open house formats will be held as follows:
- Tuesday, Sept. 19, from 5 to 7 p.m., at the Kalāheo Neighborhood Center; and
- Wednesday, Sept. 20, from 5 to 7 p.m., at the St. Catherine’s School Cafeteria.
Refreshments will be provided at all in-person workshops. The workshops build upon previous community engagement, public surveys, and technical assessments.
An online survey will be open at kauaiadaptation.com until Oct. 15.
The purpose of the Kaua‘i Climate Adaptation and Action Plan is to analyze the county’s vulnerability to climate change and provide recommendations to build resiliency into county policies, programs, and planning. The project will also develop strategies to meet the county’s carbon emissions reduction goals.
“We have witnessed how communities can be drastically impacted by climate change and its associated hazards,” said Kaʻāina Hull, Planning Director. “There is an urgent necessity to reduce our contribution to global warming. We seek the community’s input on what strategies to prioritize.”
