Pacific Media Group radio stations holding radiothon to raise relief funds for Maui

All 5 Pacific Media Group radio stations and Sheraton Kauaʻi Coconut Beach Resort are sponsoring a Kauaʻi Radiothon to support Maui relief efforts following devastating wildfires in August.

Kauaʻi’s KONG FM93.5 (KQNG), Shaka FM103.1 (KSHK), HI95 Kauaʻi FM95.9 (KSRF), KUAI Country FM104.5/AM570 (KUAI), Kauaʻi FM97 FM96.9 (KFMN) are hosting the radiothon today and Tuesday from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. where 100% of funds raised will go to Hawaiʻi Foodbank’s Maui Relief Fund, in partnership with Maui Food Bank.

“We will never forget when Hawaiʻi folks (and folks on the mainland) came to our assistance after Hurricane Iniki. Now it’s our opportunity to show our aloha for Maui folks…our ‘ohana,” said Ron Wiley, Pacific Media Group Kauaʻi Director of Programming and KONG Radio morning host.

Sheraton Kauaʻi Coconut Beach Resort has offered to start the Radiothon with the first donation of $25,000. The Radiothon goal is to raise another $25,000, then the Sheraton Kauaʻi Coconut Beach Resort will match up to an additional $25,000. That’s a total of $75,000 that will directly support relief efforts on Maui.

“All contributions to the Hawaiʻi Foodbank Maui Relief Fund will go directly to support relief efforts on Maui, in partnership with Maui Food Bank. The best way you can provide immediate support is by making an online donation,” said Danny Schlag of Hawaiʻi Foodbank.

Monetary donations do not have an expiration date and they can be quickly utilized to help provide support and food assistance to those in need, Schlag said.

Monetary donations also play a key role in Maui’s long-term recovery, Schlag added.

“We’ve learned from many disasters in the past that the road to recovery is long. But with each experience, we’ve also witnessed the incredible compassion of our community — demonstrating just how resilient the people of Hawai‘i are,” he said.
