A 47-year-old Līhu‘e woman was admitted in serious condition to Wilcox Medical Center following a traffic crash in Līhu‘e Wednesday afternoon.

According to a preliminary investigation, at approximately 4 p.m., a Freightliner box truck operated by a 49-year-old male struck a female pedestrian on a marked crosswalk at the intersection of Kolopa Street and the delivery alley behind Līhu‘e Safeway. The pedestrian suffered a leg injury.

First responders with the Kaua‘i Fire Department and American Medical Response arrived shortly after 4 p.m. and treated the Līhu‘e woman on the scene before admitting her to Wilcox Medical Center in serious condition.

Speed and impairment do not appear to be factors in this crash. Toxicology reports are pending to determine if the operator was under the influence at the time of the incident. However, the investigation remains ongoing.
