DTRIC Insurance launches Drive Aloha Challenge competition
In celebration of August as Drive Aloha Month, DTRIC Insurance is launching the Drive Aloha Challenge, a smartphone-based app that scores drivers on five behaviors associated with safer driving.
Drivers from across the islands are invited to compete for $1,000 by downloading the Visual Drive app and practicing safe driving on Hawai‘i’s roadways.
“We’ve already seen nearly 50 traffic fatalities this year and that’s 50 too many. We all have a part to play in making Hawai‘i’s roadways safer for everyone who uses them – drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians,” said Takuya Mitsueda, president and chief executive officer of DTRIC Insurance.
From August 1 to 30, drivers can enter the Drive Aloha Challenge by downloading the Visual Drive app for iOS and Android phones. Follow the prompts to set up an account and join User Group 427485. For full details and official contest rules, visit dtric.com/drivealohachallenge.
Participants can compete with their friends and family, see how they rank with other community members, and improve their driving habits. The driver with the highest score on the Leaderboard at the end of the contest period will be awarded a $1,000.
Visual Drive uses telematics technology to provide feedback to drivers on five metrics for each trip they take: rapid acceleration, harsh braking, sharp turns, at-risk speeding and phone distraction. The app tracks trips while in the background on the driver’s smartphone. Users receive a score after completing each trip. They also see how they measured in each metric and get tips to improve their rating.
