CVS Health installs time delay safes in all 61 Hawaiʻi Longs Drugs locations
CVS Health has completed the installation of time delay safes in more than 9,000 CVS Pharmacy locations, including all 61 Longs Drugs locations in Hawaiʻi.
The company said the project is part of its ongoing efforts to support law enforcement and build safer communities.
Time delay safe technology prevents pharmacy robberies and the potential for diversion of controlled substance medications by delaying the time it takes for employees to open the pharmacy safe.
In addition, the safes can deter robberies, improving the safety of CVS Pharmacy patients, customers and employees.
CVS Health implemented time delay safe technology in 2015 in pharmacy locations across Indianapolis that were experiencing a high volume of pharmacy robberies.
The installation of the time delay safes resulted in a 70% decline in pharmacy robberies in the area. Since then, robberies at CVS Pharmacy locations with the safes have decreased by 50%.
CVS Health also has reached two additional milestones in its efforts to reduce prescription drug abuse.
CVS Pharmacy’s in-store safe medication disposal bins and those donated by the company to local law enforcement agencies have collected more than 5 million pounds of expired or unused prescription and over-the-counter medication.
The company’s medication safety education programs, Pharmacists Teach and Dose of Knowledge, in partnership with Discovery Education, have reached nearly 2 million students and parents since 2015, including almost 15,000 in Hawaiʻi.
CVS pharmacists work with schools in their communities to help educate children from kindergarten to grade 12 about the dangers of prescription medication misuse and abuse.
