The public is invited to see the design concepts developed as an outcome of the Walk Audit and Visioning and Design Workshop held in Kekaha in February.

These meetings are part of the Kekaha Road and ‘Akialoa Road Improvements Project, which seeks to improve safety and accessibility on Kekaha Road and ‘Akialoa Road in Kekaha. The upcoming April 5 meeting will occur at the Kekaha Elementary School Cafeteria from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m.

At this follow-up meeting, the Department of Public Works and its consultant will recap the public input received in February and present a design concept for possible roadway improvements along the project corridor. The public is invited to consider the developing design concept and make additional comments at the meeting.

Within this project’s scope, the County seeks to meet the safety and accessibility needs of the community of Kekaha within this project’s road corridor. A speed survey is scheduled to discern specific traffic calming measures usable. Within the concerns and desires of the community, this project seeks to:

  • Rehabilitate and resurface the full lengths of Kekaha Road and ‘Akialoa Road.
  • Implement pedestrian and bicycle improvements on Kekaha Road and ‘Akialoa Road.
  • Install a sidewalk on one block of ‘Alae Road between Iwipolena Road and Kekaha Road.
  • Improve traffic flow at the intersection of Kekaha Road with ‘Alae Road and Kōkeʻe Road.
  • Provide additional signage and traffic calming measures where speeds warrant.
  • Improve drainage within the project limits.

All interested members of the community are encouraged to attend the event. The event project limits map is provided below.
