Ilima Shim, a 36-year-old construction worker who grew up in Hōnaunau on the Big Island and now lives in Kapolei, O‘ahu, placed in the top six and won $23,000 on the fourth season of the CBS reality TV competition show “Tough As Nails.”

Shim was the inspiration for Kaua‘i Now’s second poll in which we asked, “What is the toughest job?”

The winning profession: teacher, with 41 votes.

The overall results of last weeks poll are:

  • Teacher: 41.
  • Health care worker: 14.
  • Police officer: 12.
  • Construction worker: 9.
  • Firefighter: 9.
  • Farmer: 8.
  • Fisherman: 8.
  • Military: 1.
  • Mayor: 0.
  • Mechanic: 0.
