Kaua‘i COVID cases dropped again, according to the state’s latest figures, but the Garden Isle still outpaces some state averages when it comes to infections.
Mayor Derek Kawakami said the island’s seven-day average of new cases is 32, down from 46 the week before.
“That’s the fourth consecutive week of declining cases,” he said.
Likewise, the state’s seven-day new case average also dropped to 685 this week, down from 832 the week prior.
Kaua‘i is outpacing the state when it comes to other factors as well. Its test positivity rate is 21%, higher than the 16% state average. Kaua‘i also experienced another COVID-related fatality this week, when a male in his 40s, who was hospitalized, died.
“Our condolences are with his family,” the mayor said.
